ABOUT THE JOB:
Accounting Manager - Geneva has responsibility for overseeing the financial accounting functions at the Company’s subsidiary, Geneva Pipe and Precast. The financial accounting functions include overall responsibility for the general ledger. Additionally, the Accounting Manager oversees the subsidiary’s financial reporting to Corporate, ensures associated SOX compliance, and is closely involved with the external audit process. The position requires a thorough understanding of GAAP, SEC reporting, and SOX compliance, and acts as a leader within the finance team.
This position will work closely with several other positions, including the Geneva Cost Accountant and the Geneva Operations Manager.
- Oversee the financial accounting function, including general ledger, fixed assets, accounts payable and property taxes.
- Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and other work products completed by accounting staff.
- Coordinate to provide precast external financial reporting information, including non-financial statement content included in SEC and other external reports.
- Coach and develop staff, including development of challenging goals, directing action to achieve goals, and motivating and empowering staff to perform at high levels.
- Identify process improvement opportunities, and drive process simplification, standardization, and automation.
- Oversee the monthly financial statement close process, ensuring work is completed timely and reviewed for accuracy, with review appropriately documented.
- Research, document, and conclude on technical accounting and financial reporting issues.
- In conjunction with the Corporate Director of Financial Accounting, manage the external audit process to promptly resolve issues, and timely complete audits.
- In conjunction with the Corporate Controls Manager, develop and maintain effective internal controls applicable to financial accounting and financial reporting.
- In conjunction with the Corporate Accounting Manager, manage the intercompany transactions to provide timely reconciliations.
- Operate various SOX controls, maintaining appropriate documentation.
- Develop and update accounting policies and procedures and ensure compliance.
- Participate in a wide variety of special projects, including acquisition planning and integration.
- Work collaboratively with others in the Finance Department.
- Perform other job-related duties to meet business needs.
Responsible for accurate and timely accounting and financial reporting for the Geneva subsidiary of a $500 million revenue public company.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThe Accounting Manager - Geneva supervises these positions:
- Geneva Senior Accountant
- Geneva Accounts Payable Specialist
- Geneva GL Accountant
- Types of interactions are in-person and on-line discussions and meetings, phone calls, and emails.
- Interact often with other members of senior management, ensuring that the needs of the business are met, and that financial information is disseminated and accurate.
- Interact with outside auditors, with heavy interaction immediately following quarter and year end. Ensure appropriate planning and resources provided for annual financial statement audit.
- Interact with financial institutions, insurance brokers and insurance companies as necessary to ensure they have the information they need to provide services to the Company.
