Job OverviewThe Student Advocate works with counselors, administrators, teachers, and other advocates to support student success, including goal setting, tutoring, student tracking, attendance support, and supervision. The Instructional Paraprofessional supports the instructional program in assigned classrooms, focusing on supervision, care, and instruction of special‑needs students, behavior monitoring, and clerical support.
Essential Functions- Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials under teacher direction to support classroom objectives and IEP goals.
- Administer immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g., medication, tube feeding, colostomy bags).
- Administer tests, homework, make‑up work to support teachers.
- Assist data collection under the assigned teacher to monitor student progress.
- Assist students with self‑care activities (e.g., toileting, washing, changing diapers, eating, dressing, grooming).
- Assist students individually or in groups with lesson assignments to practice and reinforce learning concepts.
- Attend job‑specific trainings and meetings (e.g., first aid, behavior management).
- Communicate with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel to evaluate progress and implement IEP/504 objectives.
- Model appropriate behavior to guide social and interpersonal development.
- Implement behavioral plans under supervision to reinforce learning concepts.
- Maintain instructional materials, files, and classroom equipment to ensure availability.
- Monitor students during periods in varied school environments to maintain safe learning environment.
- Perform clerical duties (screen calls, distribute materials, maintain inventories, process documents).
- Provide instruction under supervision in academic, social, and daily living skills to reinforce objectives and ensure student success.
- Report observations and incidents related to students to appropriate personnel.
- Supervise and escort students to/from classes for a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Age 16 or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must complete mandatory employee training within the first three months of employment.
