Utah Valley University is seeking a Student Success Specialist II who is passionate about supporting students and advancing meaningful outcomes in higher education. In this role, you will provide proactive, student-centered guidance to an assigned caseload, helping students navigate challenges, stay on track academically, and progress toward degree completion. You’ll collaborate closely with faculty and campus partners to coordinate outreach and intervention efforts that strengthen retention and persistence, while maintaining accurate and confidential student records that support informed decision-making.
In addition to direct student support, this position offers the opportunity to contribute at a higher level by assisting with outreach campaign implementation, data management, Student Success Lab operations, engagement events, and social media initiatives. - Manages a caseload of students, providing personalized outreach, guidance, and consistent support throughout their academic journey; connects students with appropriate campus resources and follows up to ensure their needs are met. These efforts include one-on-one and face-to-face meetings with students to build a student success plan.
- Assists in managing, organizing, and maintaining daily outreach data, shared files, and tracking documents. Prepares data for outreach platforms and supports basic report preparation and analysis following outreach campaigns. Assists the Program Manager in developing timely, personalized outreach campaigns.
- Supports Student Success Center communication efforts by assisting with the creation, scheduling, and posting of social media content that promotes student success resources, events, and initiatives.
- Assists the Program Manager in planning events that support students.
- Supports the daily operation of the Student Success Open Lab by providing individualized, drop-in assistance to students with academic skill development, technology navigation, and access to campus resources. Assists with lab scheduling, calendar coordination, and maintaining lab marketing materials, signage, and digital displays.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate's degree and/or two years of related experience or any combination of education and experience totaling two years.
- Availability during morning hours to assist in preparing and launching daily outreach campaigns.
- Spanish and multi-lingual proficiency allow us to better serve our students.
- Experience in higher education or support services.
- Experience providing support, guidance, or services to students or clients in an educational or customer service setting.
- Understanding of campus resources and student support services.
- Knowledge of campus departments, academic advising, tutoring, financial aid, and other student support programs.
- Knowledge of best practices in student engagement, retention, and success.
- Knowledge of effective methods for engaging students through email, phone, text, and in-person interactions.
- Knowledge of data tracking systems, reporting tools, and basic analytics used to support student outreach and retention efforts.
- Skills in organization and coordination for the efficiency of workload productivity.
- Skills in maintaining accurate student records and documenting outreach efforts.
- Skills in actively listening to students and providing thoughtful solutions.
- Skill in managing, organizing, and interpreting student outreach data with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to all students.
- Ability to instruct and motivate students to continue their education.
- Ability to build rapport with students and provide compassionate and proactive support.
- Ability to handle difficult conversations with professionalism and empathy.
- Ability to identify challenges and determine appropriate resources or solutions.
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues, faculty, and campus partners to support student success initiatives.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
- Ability and experience with Microsoft Office programs, including Excel and Word.
- Ability to support day-to-day operations within the Student Success Center, including lab functions, event coordination, and staff support.
