Serve as a Resident Leader with Utah Valley University’s Upward Bound program and make a meaningful impact on high school students’ academic and personal growth. In this role, you’ll mentor students in grades 9–12 while helping create a safe, inclusive, and engaging campus experience. Resident Leaders support students in residence halls, during activities and field trips, and through structured study sessions, workshops, tutoring, and student‑led committees.

You’ll gain hands‑on experience in leadership, mentoring, program facilitation, and youth development while working closely with a supportive professional staff.

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy guiding others, building community, and developing transferable skills in education, leadership, and student support. With two distinct shift options available, the role offers flexibility while providing consistent opportunities to build professional experience, strengthen communication and organizational skills, and contribute to student success. Shift Options
  • Option 1 (Hybrid)
    • In person:
      Monday and Tuesday from 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM
    • Online:
      Wednesday and Thursday from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
    • Online:
      Friday from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
      • AND In person:
        Friday from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
  • Option 2 (All shifts are in person)
    • Sunday from 6:30 PM - 11:30 PM
    • Monday and Tuesday from 3:30 PM - 11:30 PM
    • Friday from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Under the direction of the Upward Bound Program Coordinator & Director, the Resident Leader chaperones and oversees high school students grades 9-12.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures the safety of students while on campus, in dorms, and on field trips.
  • Supervises activities, presents prepared workshops, and runs study sessions.
  • Oversees and leads student committees.
  • Tracks student progress and class attendance.
  • Tutors students when needed.
  • Attends weekly Friday staff meetings.
Qualifications
  • Graduation with a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of two years of college education.
  • Must be 21 years or older with valid driver’s license to drive students during weekly field trips using state vehicles.

  • Knowledge of policies and procedures in safety and ethical behavior.
  • Interpersonal, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to get along with different types of personalities.
