Position: Supervising Youth Counselor 1

Overview

The Department of Corrections, Division of Juvenile Corrections, is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of youth placed in our care. The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Supervising Youth Counselor 1 position. This position is based out of the Grow Academy in Oregon, WI (Dane County), which is a residential program offering comprehensive treatment for County and State supervised youth as an alternative to incarceration as well as a step down for youth returning to the community.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for security, programming, operations schedule and general living conditions of all youth at the Grow Academy. This position will also have primary responsibility for the supervision and work assignments of Youth Counselors and Youth Counselor - Advanced assigned to the same shift, as well as the implementation of the goals, policies and procedures of the assigned post.

This position will work within a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions, including going outside to oversee and supervise youths. This position will work in close physical proximity to youths and other staff members in situations that may be noisy.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 81-33 with a starting pay of $46.23/hour - $53.17/hour
. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Job Details

This position is not eligible for remote work and will work on site.

This position will have physical requirements including moving freely, grasping, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Anticipated schedule will be Monday – Friday 7:45 AM – 4:30 PM.

Must have the ability to work up to 16 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week on any shift based on daily operational needs. This may include weekends and holidays.

This position is FLSA Exempt.

This position is not anticipated to travel on a regular basis, but most DOC positions occasionally travel for training, meetings, conferences, or similar events.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
