We are looking for skilled and experienced Excavator Operators who are local to the Portland, OR area to join our team on the ground floor! This position reports to the Construction Manager and represents an excellent opportunity to join an active, well-funded team, gain valuable experience, and advance your career as GRC grows.
Responsibilities- Operate various types of heavy equipment, such as excavators, dozers, backhoes, compactors, articulated dump trucks, and/or front-end loaders.
- Ensure equipment is in good working order at all times.
- Possess skill, coordination, and awareness to operate heavy equipment safely with precision and efficiency.
- Maintain focus on safety and detail during long periods of equipment operation.
- Communicate consistently with field crew members using hand signals or radio to align and position heavy equipment properly.
- Restore and/or landscape disturbed areas of the job site.
- Handle site set-up and clean-up.
- Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment on the truck.
- Participate in new site Job Safety Analysis (JSA) before starting construction.
- Set up safety perimeter using signage, cones, safety barriers, and, when necessary, flag traffic.
- Be available for overtime, after-hours, weekend, emergency work, or on-call duties as needed.
- Follow instructions accurately.
- Remain mainly local to Oregon, with occasional work throughout the state.
- Engage in some out-of-state work.
- At least 1 year of excavator experience.
- At least 1 year of general heavy equipment experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Availability to work on-call and weekends.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- FTTH or FTTX experience.
- Class A CDL.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic understanding of utility construction processes and terminology.
Salary Range: $24 – $28 hourly, based on experience
Schedule: Day Shift: Monday – Friday;
Night Shift: Sunday – Thursday
Travel Requirements: 100%
