The position involves providing exceptional nursing care for the patients during their pre-operative and post-operative course in our ambulatory surgery center. The RN assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care of the patient. The RN will ensure that the patient is prepared for surgery and equally prepared for discharge. The RN will prepare for the arrival of patients in the ASC by ensuring that proper supplies and equipment are available.
The patient’s chart and health history will be reviewed on admission and consent will be verified prior to procedure. The RN will admit and prepare the patient for surgery, including starting an IV and giving all ordered medications. The admitting RN will work closely with members of the anesthesia department.
The RN will also be responsible for recovering patients following surgery. Patients will be assessed and evaluated during their recovery phases and their status and any interventions will be documented. Patients and their caregivers will receive discharge instructions from the RN in a manner that is easy to understand.
The RN will assist with wiping down gurneys and cleaning bays between patients and will participate in the maintenance of the unit, including stocking supplies and assisting with medication inventory.
Adherence to Universal Precautions and familiarity with correct emergency procedures is required. The ability to push gurneys, assist patients with durable medical equipment and dressing, and put away supplies requires the applicant to stand for long periods, stoop, and squat. The applicant should be able to lift and/or assist with up to 50 pounds.
Applicants must have a current Oregon nursing license, and current CPR and ACLS certification. PALS is preferred but may be obtained within 6 months of hire.
The Slocum Ambulatory Surgery Center is looking to fill a full-time, 36hour Registered Nurse position in the Pre-Op/PACU department. Applicants must have recent critical care experience in PACU, ICU, ED, or equivalent. Current Oregon RN license with BLS & ACLS required. PALS is preferred, but may be obtained within first six months of hire. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment efficiently.
