Job Summary

The RN participates as a member of the health care team in delivering quality health care to patients, supporting Kaiser Permanente’s mission, vision and values. The RN provides a variety of nursing services both in person and by phone utilizing the nursing process and leadership skills to address acute and chronic needs of Health Plan members and other patients of the Kaiser Permanente Health Care Program.

They work under the general direction of the designated supervisor.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates personal commitment to service and socially relevant practice, illustrating commitment to KP Promise and adhering to Quality of Service Standards.
  • Demonstrates ethical and legal behavior in all professional activities; acts as an advocate, demonstrates accountability and understands KP policies, HIPAA, and confidentiality.
  • Utilizes a critical thinking approach to problem solve and make decisions, applying analytical reasoning and clinical judgment.
  • Understands and provides competent care to a diverse population; uses cultural knowledge to deliver culturally sensitive care and teaching.
  • Practices health care team building and leadership skills; applies leadership to facilitate team functioning, mentors new staff, collaborates on quality standards, and promotes customer service.
  • Participates in population‑based care activities, providing prevention, early intervention, health education, and teaching plans.
  • Demonstrates technological literacy using computerized information systems and practice management systems.
  • Participates in ongoing continuing education and shares knowledge with team members.
  • Provides evidence‑based, clinically competent nursing care; plans, implements, and evaluates a plan of care across the continuum.
  • Applies effective oral and written communication skills, including negotiation and conflict management.
  • Recognizes the impact of systems on health care delivery; facilitates coordination across settings and inter‑disciplinary teams.
  • Acts as an advocate for individuals and groups with unmet health needs.
  • Applies continuous improvement tools in clinical practice and health care delivery.
Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum two (2) years of RN experience in acute care or ambulatory care/clinic setting within the last five (5) years.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience circulating in an inpatient or ambulatory surgery operating room in the past 5 years.
Education
  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
  • High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Nurse License (Oregon)
  • Basic Life Support
Additional Requirements
  • Demonstrates clinical nursing and leadership skills.
  • Able to type 20 words per minute.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal, communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Willingness to learn computerized information systems.
  • Demonstrates ability to work within teams and within a dynamic work environment.
  • Customer focused.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with population care/case management, triage and advice.
  • Current or future bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of operating room circulating and scrubbing experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience circulating in an inpatient or ambulatory surgery operating room in the past three (3) years.
  • Nurse Operating Room Certificate (US-CNOR) preferred.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (US-ACLS) preferred.
  • Pre‑Op area skills.
  • IV start skills.
