Job SummaryUnder general supervision and in collaboration with other members of the health care team, the RN uses clinical judgment skills to diagnose and treat human responses to actual or potential health problems. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, directing, providing and evaluating nursing care for patients and coordinating nursing care activities with other health care disciplines.
Essential Responsibilities- Assessment: Performs accurate multi-system assessments, including biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self‑care, education needs and discharge planning. Identifies deviations from normal on routine lab diagnostic tests, reassesses patients throughout hospitalization, and performs complete discharge assessment.
- Planning: Develops an individual nursing plan of care sensitive to the developmental needs of the patient. Coordinates patient care activities and discharge planning with hospital, clinic departments and community agencies. Documents patient teaching plans and delegates patient care activities appropriately, establishes priorities and classifies acuity levels of assigned patients.
- Implementation: Initiates appropriate measures based on protocols for the management of medical and/or surgical patients. Bases nursing care on existing protocols, correctly carries out the physician’s plan of care, accurately documents in the EMR, and utilizes a multidisciplinary approach when appropriate. Performs all necessary procedures correctly, administers medications accurately, and initiates appropriate measures in emergency situations.
- Evaluation: Evaluates assessment methods, plan of care, and patient response to treatment. Participates in unit quality assurance activities.
- Minimum nine (9) months of RN experience.
- One (1) year of current ED experience or successful completion of the Kaiser Permanente New Grad Internship Program in the ED.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course within 6 months of hire OR Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire.
- Registered Nurse License (Oregon).
- Basic Life Support.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
- NIH Stroke Scale Certificate within 3 months of hire.
- Computer keyboarding skills.
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course.
- Previous health care experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.
- CEN preferred.
- TNCC preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize and interpret cardiac dysrhythmias preferred.
- Desire and ability to function within the nursing process preferred.
- Desire and ability to function within professional and personnel standards as defined.
- Ability to use and apply effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills preferred.
