RN – Med‑Surg (Ortho/Neurosurgery/General Surgery) – KSMC 2N / 36 Hr / Nights

Job OverviewUnder general supervision and in collaboration with other members of the health care team, the RN uses clinical judgement to diagnose and treat patient conditions, assess and plan care, direct nursing activities, and evaluate outcomes. The RN coordinates patient care with other health‑care disciplines and ensures effective communication with patients and families.
Responsibilities- Assessment – Perform accurate multi‑system assessments including biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self‑care, education, and discharge needs; identify deviations from normal on routine lab tests; reassess patients throughout hospitalization and perform complete discharge assessment.
- Planning – Develop an individual nursing care plan sensitive to developmental needs; coordinate patient care activities and discharge planning with other hospital departments and community agencies; create patient teaching plans and document them on the care plan; delegate activities appropriately; set priorities; classify acuity level.
- Implementation – Initiate appropriate measures based on protocol for medical/surgical patients; base nursing care on established protocols; carry out physician’s plan of care; document accurately in the EMR; perform necessary procedures; use multidisciplinary approach; administer medications correctly; respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Evaluation – Evaluate assessment methods, plan of care, and patient response; participate in unit quality‑assurance activities.
- Minimum nine (9) months of RN experience.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Registered Nurse license (Oregon).
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Computer keyboarding skills.
- Must pass telemetry test within 6 months of hire or transfer to unit.
- Previous health‑care experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.
- Recent experience in acute care or skilled nursing, utilizing the nursing process, effective problem‑solving and communication skills.
- Experience with insulin drips.
- Previous telemetry experience.
- Med‑Surg certification.
- Demonstrated clinical judgment with inpatient orthopedic/neuro patients.
