(Franklin, LA): Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking a Welders with Aluminum experience to support shipyard fabrication, new construction, and repair operations. This role requires a high level of technical welding proficiency, strong safety awareness, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced production environment.
Essential Duties:- Read, interpret, and follow blueprints, sketches, weld symbols, and project specifications.
- Perform welding using SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), FCAW (Flux Core), and GMAW-P processes in 3G and 4G positions.
- Complete stainless steel, Cupro-Nickel, and carbon steel pipe welds (6G).
- Conduct weld fit‑up, tacking, and preparation of work surfaces by grinding, cutting, and cleaning.
- Perform structural welding on ship components such as hulls, decks, bulkheads, frames, and foundations.
- Execute grinding, cutting, torching, and pick‑up work as needed to support fabrication tasks.
- Inspect completed welds to ensure conformance with specifications and correct any defects.
- Perform daily inspection and routine maintenance on welding equipment, tools, and PPE.
- Work in various welding positions, including overhead, vertical, flat, and within tight or elevated spaces.
- Collaborate with welders, fitters, pipe fitters, electricians, and additional trades to support efficient workflow.
- Assist in mentoring and developing junior welders.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and follow all safety, fire‑prevention, and confined‑space protocols.
- Represent FTS professionally with a positive and safety‑focused attitude.
- Meet welding performance standards required for NDT (Non‑Destructive Testing) and applicable classification society requirements.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of weld symbols, blueprint reading, and fabrication drawings.
- Thorough knowledge of various metals, their characteristics, and the appropriate welding processes.
- Ability to inspect and self‑assess quality of welds to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Proficient in structural and pipe welding (6G) for carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and Cupro‑Nickel.
- Skilled in the proper use of welding tools, gauges, torches, grinders, and measuring equipment.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a high‑paced shipyard environment.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Commitment to safety, including PPE use, hazard mitigation, and safe work practices.
- Ability to work in tight, enclosed, elevated, or awkward positions as required.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, bend, climb, kneel, and work for extended periods.
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions including heat, noise, and confined spaces.
- Ability to wear required PPE including welding hoods, gloves, respirators (if needed), and protective clothing.
