The Principal Database Administrator works with their team to proactively manage database availability and performance to meet business needs by installing, configuring, monitoring and tuning enterprise databases. Provides expert guidance in tools, methodologies, standards and best practices. The position requires 24/7 on-call support on a rotational basis.
Providence Health Plan supports 100% virtual work for residents located in the following areas:
- Washington
- Oregon
- California
- Proactively manage database availability and performance to meet business needs
- Install, configure, monitor and tune enterprise databases
- Provide expert guidance on tools, methodologies, standards and best practices
- On-call support on a 24/7 rotation basis
- Bachelor’s Degree or a combination of equivalent education and experience
- Training in relational database management system (RDBMS) administration and a standard SQL language such as T-SQL, PL/SQL, or similar
- 7+ years of industry-related experience (Information Services, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Database Development, Database Administration, etc.)
- 3+ years of experience in RDBMS administration in a 24x7 enterprise environment as a senior team member
- 3+ years of experience providing technical and/or work process guidance to team members
- 3+ years of experience architecting database solutions for vendor applications and internally developed applications for SQL Server, MySQL or Oracle
- 3+ years of experience supporting Microsoft Windows Clustering with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups
- Certifications at hire
- Advanced experience of Windows and/or Unix Server environments including configuration of ODBC and JDBC connections
- Experience with large databases, OLTP support, replication and log shipping technologies
- Experience with virtual volumes (vVols), SAN/NAS storage systems and related technologies
- Experience with Cloud Database technologies such as AWS or Microsoft Azure
- Performance tuning and optimization to monitor, troubleshoot, and enhance database performance
- System integration with healthcare applications like Epic, Facets
- Access control and encryption to manage user permissions and protect patient data
- Audit and monitoring for data integrity and traceability
- Data modeling and forecasting to support clinical and operational decision-making
- Problem-solving to diagnose and resolve complex database issues
- Stakeholder engagement to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Team leadership and mentoring to guide junior DBAs
- Project management to lead database-related initiatives
