Job Description
The Early Childhood Care Provider (ECCP) is responsible for providing early childhood education for children up to Pre‑K (most likely up to 4 years of age) in our district early learning programs. Each ECCP must prepare their classroom and materials to meet the needs of individual and small groups of children. The ECCP also works collaboratively with other program staff to conduct operations in a district‑run preschool classroom, an early learning Career Technical Education (CTE) classroom, or in a state‑certified high school Teen Parent Program.

- Conduct oneself in the best interest of students and children, in accordance with the highest traditions of public education and in support of the District’s mission.
- Assist with planning/implementation of an enriching, developmentally and culturally appropriate Early Childhood Education (ECE) curriculum.
- Assist with guidance of program participants including children, volunteers, student interns and parents.
- Provide nurturing, inclusive, respectful care to enrolled children.
- Demonstrate consistent application of child development theory in care and education.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Individualize children’s curriculum by integration of observations, screening and developmental goals.
- Assist with compliance for all Oregon Administrative Rules pertaining to center certification.
- Promote safe, quality, and appropriate feeding experiences for children.
- Demonstrate best practices in early childhood care.
- Assist with toileting, diapering, and cleaning bodily secretions/fluids for children.
- Attend staff meetings and program activities.
- Demonstrate professional, reciprocal communication and ethical conduct toward all constituents.
- Adhere to all program and district policies and procedures.
- Assume food service duties and complete USDA records of feeding patterns.
- Understand and execute oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain accurate data collection/record keeping/planning as assigned.
- Maintain effective working relationships with other members of the staff, school personnel, students, and parents. Effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and staff from diverse cultures or backgrounds including those who speak limited or no English.
- Comply with all procedures outlined in the Code of Professional Conduct and Annual Notices for Education Practitioners, Teachers, Support Staff, Administrators, Substitutes Handbook and all other Beaverton School District Policies and Procedures.
Knowledge of: early child development theory; human growth and behavior;
Oregon rules for certified child care centers;
Oregon Department of Education for Early Childhood foundations and program standards; state and national standards for best practices in ECE; community and family systems and resources; food services and nutrition; NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
Skills and Abilities
to: demonstrate professional relationships with program participants and colleagues; adhere to requirements and policies for drug‑free and tobacco‑free workplace; complete assigned work on time; develop and implement children’s curriculum; assist in conducting anecdotal observations, child screenings and individualized child planning/goals.
- Must possess an Associate’s degree, preferably including coursework in working with children in an educational setting.
- In lieu of an Associate’s degree, must possess both of the following:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Passing score on a qualifying state or local academic assessment that measures knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics. The assessment must meet the requirements of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
