Our instructors bring energy, smiles, and encouragement to every class, making fitness fun and accessible for all. Under the guidance of the Healthy Living Coordinator, you’ll lead safe, effective, and engaging workouts that build strength, health, and community.

What

You’ll Do
  • Have fun! Bring energy and positivity to every class.
  • Teach assigned classes regularly—and sub when you can.
  • Welcome everyone with warmth: make eye contact, smile, and learn participant names.
  • Create workouts that help participants of all levels feel successful.
  • Make safety and enjoyment your #1 priority.
  • Play great music (when appropriate) and keep classes upbeat.
  • Arrive early to greet members and set up and stick around after class to chat and help with equipment.
  • Start and finish classes right on time.
  • Encourage members to explore other YMCA programs.
  • Build strong, supportive relationships with staff, volunteers, and members.
  • Keep certifications current and invest in your professional growth.
  • Be a team player—attend meetings and help where needed.
What We’re Looking For
  • Someone who loves fitness and helping people succeed.
  • A welcoming personality with a big smile.
  • Ability to lead safe, effective workouts for all fitness levels.
  • Strong communication and motivational skills
  • Commitment to YMCA values and building community.
  • Current group exercise certification(s) with specialization in Older Adults and CPR/First Aid (or willingness to obtain),
Why You’ll Love It Here

At the Y, it’s more than just teaching a class—it’s about changing lives. You’ll inspire confidence, build friendships, and create an environment where everyone feels like they belong. Plus, you’ll be surrounded by a supportive team that values fun, wellness, and connection.

What You’ll Need to Shine
  • A nationally recognized fitness certification (because you’re the real deal).
  • Specialty certifications are a big plus! Active Older Adult specialization preferred
  • CPR/AED/First Aid certified - or be willing to get certified within 90 days
  • Ability to pass a YMCA background check (we keep our community safe).
  • Comfort with tech basics like computer software, audio gear, and mobile devices (so you can rock the mic and the playlist).
  • Two years of group exercise experience is preferred—but passion, energy, and a willingness to learn go a long way!
