Currently, Columbia Power Cooperative Association (CPC) is inviting applications for the position of Journeyman Lineman from qualified candidates.
CPC is an electrical distribution utility serving approximately 2,182 meters and 1,050 miles of distribution line in parts of four counties in Eastern Oregon. CPC serves the communities of Mitchell, Spray, Monument, Ukiah and the surrounding areas. CPC also operates and maintains approximately 90 miles of transmission line and four substations, together with 21 miles of underground line, covering approximately 3,100 square miles.
The cooperative is headquartered in Monument, Oregon, located along the banks of the North Fork of the John Day River, offering endless outdoor recreational opportunities including hiking, camping, fishing and hunting. Within a couple of hours of Monument you can find all the conveniences of the larger cities. The cooperative offers a comprehensive benefits package and a salary structure commensurate with the IBEW Local 125 Collective Bargaining Agreement. Union membership is required within 30 days after hire date as a condition of continued employment.

Years of experience as a journeyman lineman is preferred , however newly qualified journeyman lineman applications are also welcome.
This is not an apprenticeship lineman position.

General Statement of ResponsibilitiesPerforms overhead and underground electric line construction and maintenance, as well as the operation and maintenance of equipment under the direction of a Foreman. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, driving trucks, operating equipment, loading and unloading material, climbing poles, working from aerial man-lift devices, tree trimming/clearing.
Supervision ReceivedWorks under the General Manager’s general supervision, receiving lead direction from the Foreman or Working Foreman.
Supervision ExercisedSupervision of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. However, this position is responsible for holding others accountable to provide information, paperwork, or other deliverables that are needed for operations.
Essential Functions- Installs, operates and maintains overhead and underground facilities according to CPC standards and the NESC.
- Investigates service interruptions; sectionalizes and/or clears damaged equipment with maximum regard to public safety and speedy restoration of essential services.
- Uses electric line construction equipment including, but not limited to, stringing equipment, backhoes, derrick diggers, material handlers and trucks.
- Efficiently and safely performs line work on a pole or in a bucket truck.
- Troubleshoots electric transmission, distribution and customer service problems.
- Performs electrical “hot” work.
- Makes service connects and disconnects.
- Loads and unloads material.
- Possesses and displays a working knowledge of work rules and safety practices.
- Responds with sound judgment to unusual and hazardous circumstances.
- Maintains responsibility for verifying the condition of all vehicles, equipment and tools provided for use in the performance of work.
- Represents CPC in a manner conducive to good public relations.
- Subject to call out in case of emergency; participates in scheduled standby duty rotation and unscheduled back-up.
