Education and Work Experience
  • Education: Required - bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Communications, Writing, Liberal Arts, or related field. Two years’ work experience may be considered in lieu of one year's college or university education. Social work background a plus.
  • Experience: Any equivalent combination of training and experience equaling three years of working as a grant writer.

Scope of Position

To research, develop, and implement a plan for the ongoing cultivation and acquisition of financial support from community, corporate and private foundations for programs and services offered by The Salvation Army Cascade Division in coordination with Corps Officers and staff with priorities and focus in Oregon.

Skills and Abilities

Required
  • Use a computer effectively and efficiently in the working environment; use standard office machines (e.g., fax, copier, multi-line telephone, keyboard); use standard office practices and procedures; read, write, and speak the English language to express ideas and communicate effectively.
  • Draft, edit, and write grant proposals; persuasive communications; type 40 wpm; use Microsoft (primarily Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint, Teams) software to correctly manage multiple calendars, manage and create documents, reports, and presentations; use virtual meeting platforms; use basic math (add, subtract, multiply, divide); establish effective working relationships; attention to detail, operate a motor vehicle.
  • Interact with individuals using accepted business behaviors and standards. Use interpersonal skills to deal effectively with others in favorable and unfavorable situations. Organize, prioritize, and plan own work to meet deadlines. Multitask, i.e., change work focus or respond to change of conditions and interruptions in workflow. Learn new systems and procedures. Problem solve, i.e., the ability to identify problems and find effective solutions.
  • Accepting of structured work environment, dependable attendance, regular schedule, and standard procedures and policies. Cordial and professional demeanor. Observes confidentiality.

  • Research foundations, corporations, and other organizations, using available means, resources, and contacts, to find grants and support for The Salvation Army's corps, programs, and Capital Campaigns in Oregon.
  • Communicate with appropriate personnel to gather information to acquire information for grant proposals.
