Overview

Production Supervisor - TBD - Glendale, OR (Manufacturing)

Reports to: Plant Manager

Department: All plywood Departments

Hours per shift: 8/10/12 hours

Wage: Salary TBD

Position Purpose

Oversees the production operations of applicable department. Fills in for production positions as needed. Schedules and conducts all required crew trainings and is responsible for the direction of the finishing crew to meet all company standards and policies. Position requires breaking employees for meal periods and paid breaks.

Position Functions

Essential Functions*

  • Participate in KPI Reporting, filling in for Dept. Manager as needed.
  • Schedule applicable department tasks when the need arises.
  • Use and understand Dayforce and Basic Safe.
  • Understand and run the Inventory System/Program.
  • Set up, understand, and run all machine centers (Includes breaking EE's).
  • Understand PS119 APA requirements and APA specs/tolerances.
  • Walk the department frequently to identify hazards and issues; monitor safety.
  • Move and handle products with proper technique and safety.
  • After the probationary period, strive to improve production rates toward production expectations, varying by machine center and product.
  • Report downtime on daily written reports and calculate production averages daily as required.
  • Provide direct supervision to all shift employees and ensure proper training in Safety, Quality, and Production. Maintain quality and production levels and enforce policies fairly and consistently.
  • Be proficient and certified in every job in the finish end.
  • Ensure mechanical and electrical functions of the department are performed correctly.
  • Use the principles of performance improvement (POPI) to identify issues or opportunities for improvement.
  • Demonstrate leadership, with at least two years of supervisory experience.

Working Environment

Inside 90% (average temperature 70 degrees

F);
Outside 10% (extreme low temperature 10 degrees F, extreme high temperature 105 degrees

F). Noise or vibration from machine operation and forklifts. See Job Hazard Analysis. Atmospheric conditions: wood fumes, limited dust, water mist, wood odors; no gasses; no poor ventilation.

Physical Demands

Constant use of hearing and vision; bilateral use of arms and hands; frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling and reaching; occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling more than 30 lbs.

Skills

Excellent hand-eye coordination. Continuous use of vision/hearing. Reading and ability to comprehend safety procedures and training. Self-directed with task completion. Ability to prioritize, organize, and make decisions.

Safety
  • Do only maintenance you are trained to do and keep body parts out of machinery.
  • Follow the 14-step lockout/tagout procedure for maintenance, clearing jams, or entering machinery; be aware of stored energy.
  • Use proper body mechanics and seek assistance to push loads as needed.
  • Use proper PPE (gloves, eye protection, hearing protection).
  • Communicate with coworkers at all times (e.g., forklift driver).
  • Read and write during safety training.
