Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Lead Maintenance Technician – Electrical & Controls
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Lead monitors the functions of all plant electrical and control equipment to ensure proper operation and performance of routine and specialized maintenance activities to maximize plant production and uptime.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Provides training and support to the maintenance team during swing shift.
- Installs power supply, wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers.
- Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment and connects cables and wires between programmable controls, machines and equipment.
- Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as programmable controllers, transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.
- Replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, motors, and positions sensing devices.
- Diagnoses, repairs and/or replaces faulty electronic components.
- Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors.
- Operates and adjusts machinery as directed to achieve desired line flow.
- Assumes personal responsibility for assigned tasks with respect to the timeliness and quality of work.
- Performs troubleshooting, repair, removal, installation, disassembly and assembly of variable frequency drives, programmable controller hardware, data highway, recorders, interface devices, standalone controller, valve positioners, metal detectors, electronic scale, transducer.
- Responsible for training employees; planning, assigning, and participating on the training committee to appraise performance, review relevant course curriculum and resolve problems.
- Troubleshoots and modifies PLC’s, controls, meters, and sensor hardware.
- Reads and understands electrical schematics and ladder logic.
- Adheres to all applicable GMP policies and guidelines.
- Assists in identification of design enhancements to improve equipment reliability while working with vendors and engineering to implement these changes.
- Practices lock out/tag out safety procedures and utilizes PPE and adheres to all food safety and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and guidelines.
- Documents work accurately and timely in the CMMS to meet all policies and procedures.
- Assists in the installation of new machinery and equipment.
- Reports broken/inoperable/unsafe equipment to the shift supervisor, Maintenance Manager, and/or Plant Engineer and takes immediate corrective action as appropriate.
- Maintains ongoing necessary training, certifications, and education.
- Complies with company rules and policies including GMP’s, PPE, and adherence to SOPs.
- Assists supervisors in after-hours maintenance calls as needed.
- Maintains work area in a clean, orderly, and safe manner.
