Job Summary

Based in Trail, BC, the Skills Centre is hiring a Building Maintenance Custodian. The position pays $27.90 per hour plus overtime, and offers health, dental, and RRSP benefits. The role is located in the newly renovated office building downtown Trail. Ideal candidates are proactive, detail‑oriented, and committed to maintaining a safe and well‑maintained environment for employees, clients, and visitors.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks and report major issues to management.
  • Assist in developing maintenance routines and protocols for the building.
  • Conduct inspections to identify maintenance needs and address minor repairs promptly.
  • Assist with event room setups and breakdowns.
  • Maintain the solar array and elevator systems.
  • Maintain the exterior, sidewalks, HVAC system, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Perform cleaning tasks: sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming floors and surfaces.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms to hygiene standards.
  • Empty trash bins and manage recyclable materials.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
  • Refill restroom supplies.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and report shortages.
  • Develop and follow cleaning routines and protocols.
  • Use protective equipment and follow safety protocols when handling chemicals.
  • Keep records of cleaning activities and notify management of any hazards.
  • Collaborate with team members for efficient operation.
Education and Training
  • Completion of secondary education; post‑secondary or vocational training in building maintenance preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in basic maintenance techniques, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs.
  • Previous experience maintaining solar panels is required.
  • Experience with cleaning techniques, equipment, and safe handling of chemicals.
  • At least one year of experience in all the above areas.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Experience in commercial cleaning or related field.
  • Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Physical strength and stamina for manual labor and lifting heavy objects safely.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, adhere to safety guidelines, and prioritize tasks efficiently.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • Good communication skills and teamwork orientation.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • English required.
Working Conditions
  • Full‑time, 40 hours per week; flexible schedule with occasional evening and weekend shifts.
  • Work environment may include exposure to outdoors, cleaning chemicals, dust, and physical exertion.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Hourly rate $27.90 for the first 34 hours, $41.85 for hours 35‑40.
