Campus Safety Officer – Warner Pacific University, Portland, OR
Job Summary
The Campus Safety Officer reports to the Assistant Director of Campus Safety and oversees the safety and welfare of the university community. Duties include locking/unlocking facilities, monitoring parking and campus grounds, escorting students and staff, issuing citations, and responding to emergencies.
Essential Functions
- Patrol campus grounds, facilities, parking lots, and buildings to maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Monitor all activity and confront suspicious behavior.
- Escort visitors and intruders off campus when necessary.
- Issue citations and warnings to violators.
- Interview individuals involved in incidents and document reports on crimes, violence, vandalism, fires, and other illegal activities.
- Act as Title IX designated response employee and submit reports to the Title IX Coordinator.
- Respond quickly to calls and coordinate with local police, fire, or medical personnel when required.
- Inspect safety equipment and campus vehicles.
- Contribute to the implementation of the University Strategic Plan.
- Participate in professional development opportunities.
- Adhere to university policies and procedures.
- Support inclusiveness and sensitivity in all interactions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Specialized security training certification (DPSST) within 90 days of hire.
- Title IX Campus Safety certification within 90 days of hire.
- CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire.
- No convictions for narcotics, theft, or other disqualifying offenses.
- Passing background investigation and driving record check.
- Experience with diverse populations.
- Ability to work a rotating 6‑month schedule, varying shifts, holidays, and special events.
- Strong problem‑solving, multitasking, and project‑management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- EMT or EMR certification.
- Experience in public safety and campus security.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Position requires indoor and outdoor work in all weather conditions. Campus safety uniform is required.
