Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The instructor will conduct college courses for undergraduate students by performing the following duties which include, but are not limited to, teaching automotive systems classes, assisting with and developing instructional planning, as well as advising students, using a variety of delivery methods: traditional classroom, online, hybrid, weekends, mini-semesters and evenings.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

• Associate degree or higher in Automotive Technology or a related field OR or 10 years work experience in automotive dealership or independent repair facility as a technician or service manager.

• ASE Certified in all eight (8) areas.

Note:

Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a US Dept of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC .

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree in automotive related field.

• ASE Master with L-1 certification.

• Master-level manufacture certification from Toyota.

• Diesel training and /or experience with A9 ASE certification.

• Experience with ASE Education Foundation ( ASE EF) school certification.

• Hybrid training and 10 years teaching experience in secondary or post-secondary automotive program.

• Ten (10) years’ work experience in automotive dealership or independent repair facility as an automotive technician or service manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Teaching and Learning:

• Treat others respectfully, speak to others courteously, and behave in such a way that creates a workplace environment that is marked by trustworthiness, honest but polite communication, and interpersonal interactions that are both personally cordial and professionally appropriate.

• Model an understanding of and commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy and mission.

• Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as recommended by the department chairperson and approved by the dean.

• Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful.

• Adhere to the departmental course guidelines and ensure that content covers SACS
-approved competencies.

• Order supplies and materials for supervised labs and prepare lab activities and assignments as needed.

• Fulfill the duties of clinical or lab instructor in supervision of students as applicable.

• Assume responsibility for maintaining all required college records including attendance and grade reports, roll books, etc.

• Compile bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments where applicable.

• Evaluate student performance using methods appropriate to the course.

• Maintain, review, and update course descriptions, objectives, and outlines for courses of instruction and develop new courses of study as necessary.

• Make recommendations to the department chairperson for selection of supplies, equipment, equipment repairs, textbooks for courses of study, and the scheduling of classroom and laboratory facilities.

• Participate in departmental activities related to revising and updating the program(s) in the area of expertise.

• Assist with the development of new programs in the area of expertise.
