CONTINUE YOUR CAREER IN LAW ENFORCEMENT WITH THE CITY OF MADRAS POLICE DEPARTMENT
The City of Madras Police Department is accepting applications for Lateral Police Officers. This recruitment will also be used to determine an eligibility list which will be maintained at the discretion of the HR department. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent, be able to read and write the English language, have a valid driver's license and ability to meet the City's driving standards, have no disqualifying criminal history or felony convictions, be able to pass a thorough background investigation/medical and psychological exam and drug screening.
Final evaluation of eligibility will be at the discretion of the Director of Police Services based on background and experience.
- Currently possess a Basic Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training “DPSST” certification OR other equivalent local, state or federal certification as a Police Officer or Sheriff's Deputy;
- Have successfully completed a Field Training Program;
- Have at least one year of full-time equivalent work experience as a certified law enforcement professional.
- Out of state candidates must be able to obtain police certification through DPSST without having to attend the 16 week police academy. If attendance is required, applicant may be considered for Entry Level Police Officer.
- In state lateral applicants that are currently employed, must be in good standing, and have completed the DPSST Police Academy.
- In state lateral applicants that are not currently employed, must have left their agency in good standing.
- Military Police, Federal Law Enforcement, Corrections and Parole/Probation DO NOT QUALIFY as a Lateral Police Officer
- Have completed a two-year degree or vocational training in criminal justice, police science or related field;
- Bilingual in Spanish (%5 additional incentive pay for bilingual);
- Have at least one or more years of full-time equivalent work experience as a certified law enforcement professional.
