Environmental Engineer - Air
Georgia‑Pacific LLC – Wauna Paper Mill, Clatskanie, Oregon
We are looking for an Environmental Engineer to join our environmental team at the Wauna Paper Mill. The role includes developing, implementing, and managing the facility’s environmental air compliance programs, coordinating with regulatory agencies, and collaborating with operations to improve air quality and sustainability.
What You Will Do- Manage air emissions compliance by monitoring, analyzing, and reporting air emissions data to ensure full adherence to federal, state, and local air quality regulations, maintaining accurate documentation and timely regulatory reporting.
- Lead air quality permitting and reporting efforts, preparing, submitting, and maintaining all necessary air permits and coordinating with regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate closely with operations and maintenance teams to design, implement, and enhance air pollution control technologies such as scrubbers, filters, and baghouses.
- Oversee air quality sampling, stack testing, and emissions inventories; analyze trends to identify areas for improvement.
- Serve as the key contact for regulatory agencies during inspections and audits, building strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead projects aimed at reducing air emissions and advancing sustainability goals, maintaining a strategic perspective on environmental risks and regulatory trends.
- Ensure the Environmental Management System (EMS) is implemented and maintained in compliance with Georgia‑Pacific’s performance standards.
- Evaluate potential environmental risks related to air emissions, partnering with operators, engineers, and managers to develop mitigation strategies.
- Develop a strong understanding of mill processes to empower operations teams to meet environmental performance expectations and regulatory requirements, including providing training and guidance on air quality issues.
- Environmental compliance experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or military environment.
- Experience leading federal, state, and local air quality regulations (e.g., Clean Air Act, NESHAP, MACT, Title V permits).
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
- CEMS/DAS experience.
- Pulp & Paper industry experience.
