General DutiesThe Structured Learning Center (SLC) Teacher provides specialized instruction and case management for students with disabilities and/or diverse learning needs ranging in age from five to twenty-one years. Instruction and services may occur in specialized classrooms, general education environments, community-based instructional sites, vocational settings, transportation settings, and other locations where students receive educational programming.
The Teacher promotes and develops successful learning for students and performs instructional and related duties in accordance with District policies, state and federal regulations, and the terms of the teacher contract. The Teacher maintains a cooperative and professional attitude with staff, parents, and students.
The teacher is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring individualized educational programs (IEPs) addressing academic, behavioral, social-emotional, functional, and vocational goals. The Teacher provides direction and oversight to assigned instructional assistants and ensures services are delivered in compliance with established procedures.
Due to the nature of the student population, interactions may be high-stakes and occasionally volatile, requiring professional judgment, crisis response skills, and adherence to District-approved safety protocols.
Required Qualifications- Valid State of Oregon Teaching License appropriate for the position with correct Special Education endorsement
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Hold a valid Oregon Driver's License and reliable transportation
- Ability to follow and provide oral and written instructions
- Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures and/or backgrounds
- Ability to work harmoniously with others
- Proficient oral and written communication skills in English
- Proficient in the use of computer and Internet-based applications, including but not limited to email and student information systems
- Ability to learn new automated systems as brought online by the District
- Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or District patrons
- Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment
- Promote high levels of achievement in relation to individual student abilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in compliance with state and federal regulations
- Provide specially designed instruction aligned to IEP goals and District curriculum standards
- Utilize research-based instructional strategies and behavior intervention methodologies
- Organize instruction using learning objectives with clearly defined student outcomes
- Monitor student learning and adjust instruction accordingly
- Collect and analyze student performance data to determine progress toward IEP goals
- Develop and implement Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Behavior Support Plans (BSP)
- Implement functional living and vocational instruction including community access, job readiness, budgeting, hygiene, and independent living skills
- Maintain and oversee all assistive technology and equipment identified in student IEPs
- Perform duties and expectations of a Case Manager
- Schedule and facilitate IEP meetings and maintain compliance documentation
- Partner and collaborate with teachers and specialists to ensure IEP implementation
- Provide instruction and direction to assigned instructional assistants ensuring delivery of instructional services
- Maintain cooperative relationships with administration, staff, students, and parents
- Share appropriate information with parents and staff while maintaining confidentiality
- Provide timely and accurate documentation and communication regarding student progress
- Develop and maintain an environment conducive to effective student learning
- Provide for the health and safety of students in all instructional settings
- Implement approved crisis intervention procedures and behavioral supports
- Oversee and ensure compliance with health and medical plans developed by District personnel
- Provide or supervise necessary physical assistance including lifting, transferring, toileting, feeding, mobility support, and safety interventions in compliance with District policies and state and federal regulations
