The Oakridge School District is seeking an energetic, positive, and resourceful full-time certified substitute teacher to join Oakridge School District at Oakridge Junior Senior High School and Oakridge Elementary School.

JOB SUMMARY:

In the absence of the regular classroom teacher to implement the daily instructional plans of the teacher and to provide meaningful instruction to the students of the assigned classroom. To maintain a class enviroment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students while maintaing proper classroom management. To work effectively with the building administrator and other teachers to minimize any potential transition problems from the teacher to the substitute teacher.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Meets the standards of Competent and Ethical Performance as outlined in Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR  to ). The list of position responsibilities are not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of the following duties:

  • Reports to school office at beginning of school day to pick up required materials/schedule of classes and at the end of the school day to return materials. Follows sign-out procedures as prescribed by the district.
  • Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students ensuring fairness and respect.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
  • Uses positive verbal and non-verbal skills that enhance learning.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Takes attendance in accordance with district procedures.
  • Indicates to students at beginning of class the basic expectations for behavior in the class in accordance with school and Oakridge School District policies.
  • Insures that the students are never left unattended in the classroom.
  • May perform duties ususally required of absent teacher such as lunchroom duty, hall monitoring, etc.
  • Knows emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment and facilities.
  • Knows procedures for referring students who are disciplinary problems.
  • Knows school procedures and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by principal.

GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Perform duties in a courteous and efficient manner that builds the confidence of staff, students and the public and enhances learning.
  • Maintain regular attendance at work and work activities, and is punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedule.
  • Observe laws, district policies and procedures, and professional standards for this position.
  • Respect confidential information and the privacy of students, staff and parents.
  • Support students and staff in the district’s career related learning standards to encourage the development of independent work skills through career exploration and community involvement.
  • Maintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriate to the position as defined by the district.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid Oregon State Teaching License or Oregon State Substitute Teachers License
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff

  • Content knowledge in subject areas taught.
  • Familiarity with state standards and curriculum frameworks.
  • Knowledge and experience with differentiated instruction.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of state and federal education laws and of student and staff rights.
  • Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations.
  • Ability to effectively manage and supervise students and their work.
