Compensation: $19.06 - $24.15 - New hires will be placed at Step 1 through 9 depending on prior contracted educational experience. The challenging but rewarding career of a Life Skills Education Assistant (also known as a Para-Professional) helps students with disabilities under the direction of a Certified Teacher. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to observe a class and ask questions prior to formal offer.

Qualifications:

• Work under the direction of a certified teacher and assist them in successfully conducting lessons, setting up equipment and activities.
• Ability to independently monitor and supervise special needs students in the classroom, between classes and during lunch in small groups or one-on-one.
• Flexibility and initiative to encourage and nurture students.
• Patience and the ability to enforce good behavior and provide discipline with dignity.
• The physical ability to regularly stand, walk or sit on the floor while working with students in different settings.
• The physical ability to regularly move, lift or restrain students.
• This position could include assisting students with toileting routines and needs.
• Helping at meal times to feed students with a variety of abilities. This may include assisting with tube feeding.
• Provide medical support or intervention.
• Ability to meet standards of the Life Skills Educational Assistant (Para-Professional).

Requirements:

• Two (2) years of college coursework or Associate's Degree (May be waived pending successful performance on skills test administered by the District).
• High School Diploma or GED required.
