GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

This classification performs duties as needed to support the operation of the Assessor’s Office and is the first contact for people requesting information.

Hours worked are 37.5 hours a week. The Assessor’s Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm with staff taking alternating lunches. The office does not close to the public for lunch. EOE.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the Assistant Assessor and under the general supervision of the County Assessor who assigns projects and reviews the completed work. The employee uses initiative in completing routine assignments and refers to the Assistant Assessor when encountering problems.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervision of other employees is not normally a responsibility of positions of this classification.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following description of duties may not be all inclusive and other functions may be assigned at the discretion of management.

  • Assists the public in person, email and over the phone by answering general questions or directing them to the appropriate person.
  • Obtain deed list from the Clerk’s Office for review by cartographer. Once reviewed, update ownership changes in the AS400.
  • Responsible for getting copies of Journal Voucher, Tax Lot Cards and new Maps to county offices, public, title companies, attorney offices, etc.
  • Responsible for shared office tasks that include: balancing cash box on a monthly basis; give receipt money to the Treasurer’s Office for deposit. Taking mail once a week.
  • Send letters to the districts regarding the information they need to compile for their budgets, non-profit housing, farm use and show cause as directed by the County Assessor.
  • Responsible for creating new mobile home accounts and addresses; checking and updating title information in state of Oregon’s Accela Mhods system.
  • Ownership Changes, trip permits, security interest holder changes through the state of Oregon’s Accela Mhods system. This includes a weekly deposit as well as a weekly report for the state.
  • Responsible for Senior Citizens Deferral and Disabled War Veterans Tax Exemptions.
  • Courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees, department heads, outside agency personnel and the public.
  • Sending out applications as requested.
  • Order office supplies as needed.
  • Work on special projects as assigned.
  • Regular physical attendance at the employer’s facility is required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a HS diploma or equivalency with five years clerical experience of a progressively responsible nature; OR a satisfactory combination of experience and training that would demonstrate possession the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Past government experience
  • Experience working directly with the public
  • Experience with real estate transactions and property descriptions
  • Proficiency in MS Excel
  • Proficiency in MS Word
