Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and guidance to a team of up to five Seasonal Park Assistants; coordinate daily workloads and ensure park operations are performed to park standards.
  • Assist Park Rangers with communicating and guiding the implementation of park standards for customer service, cleanliness, and safety.
  • Perform park operations and maintenance tasks for county parks, natural areas, campgrounds, and day-use areas; assist with emergencies and special events; support traffic control and parking setup as needed.
  • Collect and account for fees in park day-use and campground areas; enforce fee compliance; process computerized campsite reservations; ensure parks close on schedule and may be closed as necessary.
  • Educate park users on county ordinances and safety regulations; maintain safety and health standards.
  • Maintain operation and maintenance logs and daily activity reports; assist with ongoing seasonal park operations and maintenance tasks.
  • Operate, repair, and maintain park machinery, hand and power tools; perform cleaning and maintenance of park facilities, restrooms, and grounds; load and deliver firewood; manage waste and landscaping tasks.
  • Monitor park for safety and fire hazards; support park safety compliance.
Qualifications
  • Required

    Minimum Qualifications /Transferrable

    Skills:

    Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire
    ; a minimum of three (3) months of related experience
  • Preferred Special Qualifications/Transferrable

    Skills:

    Supervisory or lead work experience; customer service experience; prior park & recreation experience; current CPR/First Aid certification; basic computer skills; bookkeeping experience; basic carpentry, plumbing, landscaping and small equipment maintenance skills
  • Note:

    For Veterans qualified for Veteran's Preference, list transferable skills in the application and explain relevance where applicable
Pre-Employment and Working Conditions
  • Pre-employment requirements: ability to work nights, evenings, and weekends; pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test; pass a criminal history check; pass a post-offer physical assessment; valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; driving is required for County business
  • Working conditions:

    frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting; exposure to inclement weather, noise, dust, chemicals, and moving machinery
Work Schedule

This is a temporary/seasonal position with up to 40 hours per week. Seasonal Lead Park Assistant positions follow the County's alternate workweek program (40 hours over four days with three consecutive days off), with expectant availability from April through October and possibly into mid-December. Shifts include mornings, mid-day, and evenings; most shifts include evenings, weekends, and holidays. On-site/in-person work is required at the specified location.

  • Morning Shift: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
  • Mid-day Shift: 10:30 AM – 9:00 PM
  • Evening Shift: 12:00 PM – 10:30 PM
