OverviewThe Controller is responsible for managing all accounting and budgeting/forecasting processes, which includes the supervision of the accounting positions. They analyze current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to ensure organizational understanding and accurate forecasting. They monitor, analyze, and report on all aspects of the financial statements as well as budgets/forecasts. They complete regular reporting and may present to senior management and the board of directors.
They ensure the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and review reconciliations. They support closing process including the review and analysis of financial statements. They manage the audit ensuring timely completion and adherence to internal controls.
They represent accounting in cross-functional initiatives. They design and implement financial transactions automation while providing technical knowledge of general ledger integration. They can explain designs to others. They understand internal financial reports, the causes of movements in the financials, and can translate that understanding to users of the financial statements.
They work highly independently and they can delegate work across their team. They design accounting processes and controls, make recommendations for company policy, and draft memos/project charters. Their goals are communicated to them in problem terms. They provide the 'what', 'so what', and 'now what' for identified issues. They are expected to identify root causes, recommend solutions while working with senior management, and implement those solutions independently.
They supervise the work of the accounting team and may guide others throughout the organization.
Functional
- Oversee and ensure timely close of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with reporting to leadership
- Manage and contribute to execution of annual budget and quarterly forecast releases
- Supervise accounting operations and internal controls
- Lead the accounting team in the successful execution of the annual audit
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting
- Manage local and federal tax filings (sales, property, and income)
- Assist human resources in periodic compensation calculations
- Research technical accounting issues for compliance
- Create process flow mapping for system integrations from systems to the general ledger
People Leadership
- Plans staffing levels and workload distribution to meet operational and strategic goals.
- Recruits, selects, hires and onboards staff.
- Sets clear goals, expectations and priorities.
- Coaches, mentors and guides to support employee career growth and effective succession planning.
- Conducts regular 1:1s to track and support performance; addresses performance issues promptly and constructively.
- Fosters a productive, inclusive and engaging team culture; addresses team conflicts promptly and fairly.
- Plans and manages team budgets, expenses and operational costs as applicable.
Other duties as assigned.
