The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care functions under the supervision of a registered nurse and performs clerical, communication, and other related duties to facilitate the efficient functioning of department services. All duties are performed in collaboration with team members, adhering to standards outlined in the competency-based/evaluation tool. The CNA participates in and accepts responsibility for functions delegated to the team, demonstrating a commitment to quality service for patients, the public, and co-workers.

Responsibilities:
- Assists patients in routine activities of daily living, including range of motion exercises, ambulation, positioning, and skin care.
- Distributes linen and changes bed as needed.
- Assists with feeding and meal delivery.
- Assists with routine hygiene care, including toileting, incontinent care, and oral/personal hygiene.
- Assists the patient care team in collecting patient data and specimens (urine, stool, sputum).
- Obtains and records patient health data, including weights, vital signs, pulse oximetry, pain assessment, and I&O.
- Communicates patient status and reports changes in patient condition to licensed professionals.
- Assists the patient care team by performing and explaining designated patient care procedures, such as incentive spirometry.
- Transports patients and prepares them for diagnostic tests.
- Assists rehab therapists (PM & R).
- Performs pulse oximetry/oxygen setup in oxygen therapy.
- Prepares rooms (supplies) and provides post-mortem care.
- Prepares for admission and discharge.
- Assists nurses in emergency situations.
- Maintains and cleans equipment.
- Performs suction (oral, nasopharynx).
- Performs blood sugar finger sticks.
- Removes IV catheters per licensed nurse instruction.
- Performs EKGs (department-specific responsibility).
- Answers unit phones and directs calls accordingly.
- Performs data entry into electronic medical database systems and documents patient care and related duties appropriately.
- Performs selected patient registration activities.
- Coordinates equipment/supply needs and notifies the appropriate department of equipment malfunction.
- Performs other related duties (e.g., clerical, technical duties) as assigned.
Required Skills &
Certifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- CNA license
- AHA BLS Provider CPR certification

Special Considerations:
- On-call is required.
- If overstaffed, may be placed on call.
- Weekends are required, every other weekend is standard.
- Position will not float between units.
