Job Description Summary
The Salary On-Call RN for the Operating Room is a critical member of the perioperative team, responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered care during surgical procedures. This salaried position includes scheduled on-call shifts to support urgent and emergent surgical cases outside of regular operating hours. The RN collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and efficient surgical care.

- Prepares the patient for scheduled procedures to assist in patient assessment. Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to the appropriate personnel.
- Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to assure optimal patient care. Assists physicians with examinations, procedures related to direct patient care. Has knowledge of all equipment, procedures and can instruct and precept personnel.
- Writes initial nursing histories, assesses patient conditions and develops individual care plans for patients in the OR.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to patients’ comfort and privacy and maintains a safe, therapeutic and comfortable environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.
- Orients, trains and instructs assigned personnel. Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives and maintain good employee objectives.
- Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording of patient medical records maintaining all required reports, records and statistics.
- Performs other miscellaneous and related duties as assigned. Have knowledge of ADRN standards and practices.
Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date. Refer to policy A141 for more details. A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required.
Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
