Overview
MUSC Health – Orangeburg is seeking a Certified Athletic Trainer to support the Rehab Services and Sports Medicine Departments while serving Orangeburg County School District student‑athletes at a high school site. The role involves preventing injuries, managing acute and chronic conditions, providing on‑field coverage, developing rehabilitation programs, and collaborating with physicians, physical therapists, and advanced practice providers to keep athletes safe and ready for the next play.
Responsibilities- Attend assigned athletic events, maintain punctual professional appearance, and provide acute evaluation of sports related injuries.
- Monitor chronic conditions, triage patients to appropriate level of care, and actively refer potential patients to MUSC services.
- Collaborate with coaches, athletes, and the healthcare team; act as liaison between physician/physical therapist and team coach.
- Communicate athlete playing status to MD, PT, and coach on a regular basis.
- Respond to electronic communication and meeting requests in a timely manner; update success factors and schedule across the year.
- Perform assessment procedures based on accepted practice standards; document evaluations and referrals in the ATC database.
- Develop and implement treatment plans, including taping, bracing, modality use, wound care, and patient‑specific rehabilitation programs.
- Coordinate return‑to‑play care and maintenance programs with treating physician and PT.
- Organize pre‑participation screenings, maintain documentation for PPEs, and monitor athlete health status throughout the year.
- Graduate of an accredited college with a BS/BA (Master’s in Athletic Training preferred).
- Current BOC certification and South Carolina licensure by DHEC (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
- Successful completion of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association Board of Certification (BOC) examination.
- Active licensure to practice as an Athletic Trainer in South Carolina.
- Completion of at least 75 CEU’s every 3 years.
- Valid driver’s license; computer literacy.
- Experience working rotating shifts, overtime, and learning new processes, tools, and equipment.
- Preferred:
Master’s degree, orthopedic experience, and clinical orthopedic operations experience.
- Ability to perform job functions in upright, seated, walking, and kneeling positions.
- Capacity to climb stairs and ladders (continuous or infrequent as required).
- Capacity to lift and carry up to 150 lbs. unassisted, 75 lbs. from floor or 36‑inch height, 200 lbs. unassisted, and patients up to 300 lbs. assisted.
- Good visual, hearing, and tactile acuity; maintain 20/40 or better corrected vision.
- Ability to perform repetitive fine and gross motor tasks, maintain balance, and operate equipment safely.
