This position is part of the Water Resources branch of the Environmental Services division.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform water quality analyses under the direct supervision of the Technical Manager.
• Keep accurate, legible records of data generated.
• Prepare reagents and standards according to standard operating procedures.
• Prepare glassware and any other apparatus necessary to perform analyses.
• Calculate and post analytical results and enter data into the ESD LIMS in accordance with standard operating procedures.
• Report any questionable data to the Technical Manager or the QA Officer.
• Operate and maintain applicable laboratory and field equipment and assist with troubleshooting.
• Participate in quality assurance and safety programs as required.
• Assist in receiving samples submitted to the laboratory for analysis.
• Collect water samples as required for biological, physical and chemical analyses.
• Conduct field analyses and record observations of water quality conditions under the direct supervision of the Lower Basin Field Coordinator.
• Assist in the planning and implementation of special water quality projects.
• Participate in ongoing field training, which may include travel.
• Perform any other duties assigned by management.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, or a related field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
• Knowledge of field and laboratory procedures and microbiological principles and techniques for the analysis of water and wastewater samples is highly desirable.
• Must be able to make unbiased observations and interpretations.
• Must be able to perform minor maintenance of lab instruments and field equipment.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and have a good working knowledge of desktop computers in general.
• Aptitude for precise work and detailed record keeping with good organizational skills.
• Must be physically able to lift and carry approximately 15 lbs.
• Must be able to operate a boat with a motor, including launching, loading, and unloading.
• Must be able to swim.
• Must have a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record.
• Must be capable and willing to perform assigned tasks without close supervision and work flexible hours. Must be able to work during inclement weather.
