Laboratory/Field Analyst
- Environmental Services Division

OrganizationThis position is part of the Water Resources branch of the Environmental Services division.
Position FunctionDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform water quality analyses under the direct supervision of the Technical Manager.
- Keep accurate, legible records of data generated.
- Prepare reagents and standards according to standard operating procedures.
- Prepare glassware and any other apparatus necessary to perform analyses.
- Calculate and post analytical results and enter data into the ESD LIMS in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Report any questionable data to the Technical Manager or the QA Officer.
- Operate and maintain applicable laboratory and field equipment and assist with troubleshooting.
- Participate in quality assurance and safety programs as required.
- Assist in receiving samples submitted to the laboratory for analysis.
- Collect water samples as required for biological, physical and chemical analyses.
- Conduct field analyses and record observations of water quality conditions under the direct supervision of the Lower Basin Field Coordinator.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of special water quality projects.
- Participate in ongoing field training, which may include travel.
- Perform any other duties assigned by management.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, or a related field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
- Knowledge of field and laboratory procedures and microbiological principles and techniques for the analysis of water and wastewater samples is highly desirable.
- Must be able to make unbiased observations and interpretations.
- Must be able to perform minor maintenance of lab instruments and field equipment.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and have a good working knowledge of desktop computers in general.
- Aptitude for precise work and detailed record keeping with good organizational skills.
- Must be physically able to lift and carry approximately 15 lbs.
- Must be able to operate a boat with a motor, including launching, loading, and unloading.
- Must be able to swim.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record.
- Must be capable and willing to perform assigned tasks without close supervision and work flexible hours. Must be able to work during inclement weather.
