Anticipated Pay Range: $25.00/hour
Pay Range Information: Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors.
The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Under the direction and supervision of the PI, the research assistant will provide research support to ongoing projects and grants related to cognitive neuroscience and AI. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: performing various research-related activities; data entry; conducting literature reviews and compiling findings; maintaining project-related documentation and records; supervising undergraduate research assistants; running analysis on advanced AI systems related to intentions, deception, alignment faking, and similar topics;
gathering EEG, TMS, eye-tracking, and other neural and behavioral data; analyzing data; helping with and writing up presentations, grants, and manuscripts.
- Independently performing various research-related activities.
- Mentoring undergraduate students.
- Organizing and presiding over undergraduate lab meetings.
- Conducting literature reviews and compiling findings.
- Maintaining project-related documentation and records.
- Analyzing advanced AI systems for intentions, deception, alignment faking, and similar states.
- _assisting with participant recruitment, trainings, and behavioral assessments._
- Gathering and analyzing EEG, TMS, eye-tracking, and other neural and behavioral data.
- Helping with and writing up presentations, grants, and manuscripts.
- Other duties as assigned.
- BA/BS degree or higher in psychology, health sciences, cognitive science, philosophy, neuroscience, computer science, or similar background and experience.
- 2+ years of prior research experience, including knowledge of research methods and terminology.
- Demonstrated experience in data collection and data entry.
- Demonstrated analytical skills: define problems by performing research and fact finding.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Working knowledge of Excel. Experience working with Qualtrics, Mechanical Turk, Prolific, or similar survey software.
- Willingness to work as a supportive, cooperative member of an interdisciplinary team.
- Theoretical and practical experience and strong willingness to learn programming.
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience in combining psychology or cognitive neuroscience with AI research .
