The Nurse Practitioner will perform all duties and tasks under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist. The Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care s division of Center for Perioperative Care supports medical optimization prior to surgery, aims for a smooth hospital course, and facilitates return to normal life activities. Patient care is coordinated across multiple departments and phases of care.

Responsibilities

• Work with physicians/surgeons/APP colleagues and other clinical and administrative staff to ensure efficient patient management based on accepted practice.
• Perform histories and physicals, pre-operative planning/coordinating with anesthesia/outside providers and PCPs as applicable.
• Respond to changes in patient status; provide needed prescriptions/evaluations/referrals/treatments as permitted under standardized procedures.
• Provide home health services and DME, DMV evaluations, referrals, consultations, PT, and order radiographic or diagnostic requests.
• Facilitate specialized treatment privileges (e.g. chemotherapy with approved privileges).
• May provide patient education, arrange follow-up appointments, and engage in any approved privileges after necessary proctoring or FPPE for independent practice and procedural activity.

• Demonstrates an understanding of privacy, confidentiality, and security policies related to PHI and other sensitive information.
• California RN and Nurse Practitioner License (ACNP/AGACNP), current active, unrestricted Furnishing License and DEA Registration; active National Provider Identifier (NPI); BLS Certification.
• Current, active, unrestricted California Registered Nurse license.
• Valid California Registered Nurse license.
• Valid California Nurse Practitioner license.
• NP National Board Certification.
• Valid Basic Life Support certification by the American Heart Association.
• At least 6 months of NP experience.

• Must successfully complete the UCI Medical Center credentialing/privileging process.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the program and UCI Health System.
• Ability to exercise diplomacy and flexibility in interacting with physicians, nurses, other paramedical personnel, administrators, emergency and law enforcement officers.
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
• Demonstrated ability to independently assess, diagnose, and treat patients with acute and chronic problems.
• Clear communication of medical information to diverse audiences, in person and by telephone.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes; maintain appropriate work pace.
• Essential skills to perform assigned duties and be trained in use of specialized medical equipment and procedures.
• Ability to assess pediatric patients within NP scope and license.
• Customer service: apply UCICARE principles and follow Service Excellence standards.
• Perioperative/Peri-anesthesia experience; prior ambulatory care center management experience; prior ICU experience.
• Perioperative/Peri-Anesthesia experience is preferred.
