Nurse Practitioner

About the Position

UC Irvine’s Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to perform all duties under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist. The role supports patients pre‑ and post‑ surgery, coordinating care across multiple departments and ensuring a smooth hospital course.

• Work with physicians, surgeons, APP colleagues, and clinical/administrative staff to ensure efficient patient management based on accepted practice.
• Perform histories and physicals, pre‑operative planning, and coordinate with anesthesia, outside providers, and PCPs.
• Respond to changes in patient status, provide prescriptions, evaluations, referrals, and treatments as permitted under the standardized procedure.
• Provide home health services and DME, DMV evaluations, referrals, consultations, PT, and order radiographic or diagnostic requests.
• May provide patient education, arrange follow‑up appointments, and engage in any approved privileges the APP has completed proctoring or FPPE prior to competency.

• Successfully complete the UCI Medical Center credentialing/privileging process.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships across the program and UCI Health System.
• Exercise diplomacy and flexibility in interacting with physicians, nurses, paramedical personnel, administrators, emergency and law enforcement officers.
• Demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
• Independently assess, diagnose, and treat patients with acute and chronic problems.
• Communicate medical information clearly to a broad variety of people, both in person and over the telephone.
• Write clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes.
• Maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
• Be willing and able to use specialized medical equipment and procedures.
• Adhere to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies related to PHI.

• California RN and Nurse Practitioner License (ACNP/AGACNP) – Current, Unrestricted, Furnishing License and DEA Registration, Active.
• National Provider Identifier (NPI).
• BLS Certification – Current, active, unrestricted.
• California Registered Nurse license.
• 6 months of Nurse Practitioner experience (required).

• Ability to assess pediatric patients within the scope of the NP practice and license certification.
• Prior and relevant perioperative/peri‑anesthesia experience.
