The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Supervisor is responsible for planning, establishing, implementing, and sustaining robust occupational health and safety programs to ensure the highest possible level of safety for Meri Cal LLC employees and compliance with local, state, and federal environment, health and safety regulations and industry best practices. The primary focus is on compliance and reporting, safety training, safety program implementation and management.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Design, implement, and drive company-wide cost-effective compliance training, new hire orientations, and regulatory safety programs to ensure uniformity across facilities.
- Design and implement best-practice techniques, adopt new regulatory requirements, and provide control measures that reduce or eliminate risks to employees and the company.
- Develop, administer, and maintain the orientation and training curriculum for all employees at all facilities, ensuring compliance with California/Federal OSHA, NFPA, EPA requirements and evolving regulatory trends.
- Conduct safety inspections and assessments at all facilities; ensure action items from audits are completed and report results to executive and management personnel.
- Oversee and enhance site safety committee meetings and team responsibilities.
- Compile, analyze, interpret, and report accident, loss, and exposure data; prepare recommendations for corrective action to mitigate hazards.
- Present KPIs to the Director of EHS, EVP of Quality and Compliance, and other management monthly or as required.
- Investigate accidents, injuries, illnesses and near misses; determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Perform other actions as assigned.
- Promptly report work-related injuries and illnesses to workers’ compensation carriers and maintain related records in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Manage and track injury and illness data; work to reduce incident rates.
- Prepare and comply with local, state, and federal environmental reporting and permitting requirements.
- Engage with employees on the production floor and in the office to promote a safety-focused culture.
- Administer and track PPE, including Meri Cal’s shoe voucher program, and the hearing conservation program.
- Identify hazardous conditions and evaluate practices; develop, implement, and administer hazard controls, procedures, and programs.
- Administer safety KPIs, PIRs (Preventative Investigation Reports), and workplace inspections.
- Maintain GMP provisions and monitor practices related to food safety, cleanliness, and sanitation; support ergonomics programs.
- Ensure Safe Behavior Based Observation, LOTO, Machine Guarding, and Powered Industrial Truck programs are implemented and sustained.
- Perform other actions as assigned.
- Track record of establishing and implementing strategic safety programs for an organization.
- 5 years of relevant work experience in manufacturing safety programs and practices.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to drive change across multiple sites and levels.
- Designs and implements critical programs to achieve strategic direction; develops safety program performance objectives and KPIs.
- Effective communication with employees and management; leadership in safety compliance.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; knowledge of manufacturing practices, preferably in food or dietary supplement industries.
