Job Description & How to Apply Below
The Director of Business Intelligence & Analytics is a hands‑on, technically proficient leader responsible for transforming raw clinical, operational, and financial data into actionable insights. This role requires the ability to directly access, manipulate, validate, and model data from multiple source systems, while also leading the analytics strategy for the organization. The Director works closely with clinical leadership, operations, finance, revenue cycle, and IT to ensure data accuracy, transparency, and meaningful decision support.
CoreResponsibilities
- Directly work with raw data extracts and source system tables from EHR, practice management, ASC, billing, and financial systems
- Write and optimize SQL queries to extract, join, and validate data across disparate systems
- Perform data profiling, reconciliation, and root‑cause analysis to resolve data discrepancies and ensure trust in reporting
- Build and maintain analytic datasets, semantic layers, and data models to support dashboards and ad hoc analysis
- Develop custom analyses using raw data to answer complex, non‑standard business questions
- Manage and understand data structures from systems such as:
- EHR and PM platforms
- Revenue cycle and billing systems
- External benchmarks, registries, and payer data
- Partner with IT and vendors on data ingestion, ETL processes, and data warehouse design, with the ability to independently validate outputs
- Translate raw data into executive dashboards, physician performance reports, and operational scorecards
- Ensure traceability from dashboard metrics back to source data
- Provide rapid, ad hoc analyses to support clinical operations, physician compensation, payer negotiations, and growth initiatives
- Establish standards for data definitions, metric logic, and documentation
- Mentor analysts and engineers in best practices for working with raw data and source systems
- Balance strategic leadership with hands‑on analytical execution, especially for high‑impact initiatives
- 7–10+ years in business intelligence, analytics, or data engineering roles
- Demonstrated experience personally working with raw healthcare data, not solely managing analysts
- Healthcare experience required; multi‑site physician practice or specialty practice strongly preferred
- Advanced SQL (writing complex queries, joins, CTEs, window functions)
- Experience working directly with source system databases and data warehouses
- Strong understanding of healthcare data models (encounters, procedures, charges, payments, adjustments, scheduling)
- Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Looker, etc.)
- Advanced Excel and data validation skills
- Familiarity with ophthalmology or surgical specialty data
- Experience validating vendor‑delivered data feeds and reports
