Your Role on the TeamPosition Summary:
The Patient Assistant Liaison (PAL) Supervisor is responsible for providing direct supervision to pharmacists and certified, licensed, and skilled technical employees in outpatient Pharmacy responsible for securing timely and accurate authorizations, addressing retro-authorizations, resolving requests for Information (RFIs), and supporting charge capture activities. The role requires a balance of operational oversight, staff development, quality assurance, and process improvement, with the ultimate goal of ensuring smooth coverages of pharmacy orders and exceptional service to patients, providers, and payers.
Functions as an advisor to the department and Pharmacy leadership. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets and implements policies, e.g., operational, management, HR, resource management in defined areas, and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge, e.g., regulatory, operational and clinical. The Supervisor ensures that work queues are managed efficiently, deadlines are met, and processes align with organizational policies, payer requirements in compliance with departmental goals and objectives, accreditation expectations, and all State and Federal Laws.
Responsible for ensuring the optimal reimbursement for high-cost specialty medications prescribed in various UCI Health centers, clinics and cancer centers. The role is required to have an active license in good standing in the state of California.
Required Qualifications:
- Team player with a positive attitude.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and authorization management systems.
- Pharm D degree from an ACPE certified school of pharmacy is required.
- Must have current knowledge of drug references, Joint Commission, ACHC, URAC, and other regulatory standards.
- Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
- Minimum of three (3) years as a licensed pharmacist and a minimum of three years of professional clinical pharmacy experience at a specialty pharmacy or; a combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills as required above is required.
- Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience in a healthcare setting or experience as an authorization lead with demonstrated leadership responsibilities.
- Knowledge of payer requirements, billing terminology, and claims processes.
- Good understanding of limited distribution restrictions, REMS program requirements, cold chain distribution and storage and medication delivery systems and management.
- Good problem solver with strong clinical skills necessary to both educate and supervise technical and other support staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, interpersonal skills, and sound work ethic.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
- Dependable in attendance and job performance.
- Current BLS or ACLS upon hire.
- Active registered pharmacist license in good standing with the CA Board of Pharmacy.
