An exciting Fund & Corporate Controller opportunity is available with a growing Orange County investment firm. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will help lead accounting and finance across the firm's management company, funds, and GPs, overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, fund accounting, audits, tax, and investor relations, while building scalable processes, managing complex fund structures, and working with administrators.

OverviewA growing private investment firm based in Orange County is seeking a Fund & Corporate Controller to help build and lead its accounting and finance function across management company, fund, and GP entities. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role will play a key part in establishing scalable accounting processes, managing reporting timelines, and overseeing accounting and finance for complex investment structures.
The Controller will have broad exposure across fund accounting, firm-level finance, management company accounting, GPs, and investor-related financial activity.
- Partner with the CFO to build and lead the accounting and finance function across the management company, funds, and GP entities
- Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
- Oversee accounting for complex and levered investment vehicles, including fund structures and intercompany relationships
- Maintain a strong understanding of third‑party fund administrator processes and serve as the first line of review for fund accounting deliverables
- Manage capital calls, distributions, allocations, and investor‑related financial reporting
- Coordinate and manage fund and management company audits and tax processes
- Own financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow projections for the management company
- Partner with the CFO on fund‑level budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Design, implement, and continuously improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting timelines
- Manage, mentor, and develop two direct reports while remaining hands‑on in execution
- Support the continued growth and scalability of the firm's accounting and finance infrastructure
- Prior experience as a Controller or senior accounting leader within private equity, private credit, hedge funds, real estate, or a similar alternative asset manager
- Strong knowledge of fund accounting and/or oversight of third‑party fund administrators
- Experience working with complex fund structures; exposure to leverage preferred
- Experience managing audits, tax processes, and investor‑related financial activity
- Big 4 or similar public accounting background preferred; candidates directly from public accounting with relevant fund experience will be considered
- CPA preferred but not required
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, growth‑oriented environment
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, take ownership, and operate effectively in a build‑out phase
