Responsibilities- As the California Building MEP Discipline Leader, manage and lead the building MEP business function of all staff within the discipline in Mott Mac Donald California.
- Support unit general managers with recruitment and resourcing, promotions and salary reviews, and day-to-day staff line management including training approvals and leave authorizations.
- Develop staff within the discipline, including approval of individual development plans and training plans for each staff member.
- Develop opportunities, lead pursuits, grow the team, and oversee the delivery of technical work in collaboration with leadership.
- Manage delivery of project work as a project technical lead, supervising and directing the project team to deliver high-quality technical outcomes.
- Lead growth of the MEP business within the Building Services team in California and develop the pipeline of opportunities in the Los Angeles area.
- Lead multi-disciplinary proposals on transit and built environment projects and manage the regional building MEP discipline function, driving integration across boundaries.
- Implement the building MEP discipline plan, monitor performance, meet the annual budget, and make recruitment, resourcing, salary, and promotion decisions for staff within the discipline.
- Act as a regional and global figurehead for the building MEP discipline, creating a regional network and providing joined-up leadership.
- Manage skills, capabilities, and competencies, and implement development and training plans for staff.
- Maintain engagement with Units and Divisions and report on progress using agreed metrics; plan for succession and appoint deputies and technical leaders as required.
- Appoint individuals from the Early Career Professional community to support the discipline; engage in external activity to develop new work, revenue streams, and a strong regional/global reputation.
- Manage targeted client relationships to grow the business and identify resources to pursue, win, and deliver projects.
- BEng & MSc in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or Building Services.
- Experience in design management and MEP engineering design of transportation stations, depots, OMF facilities, and logistics buildings.
- 15+ years of relevant experience with both public and private sector clients.
- PE in California is required.
- Experience in design and construction of innovative and technically challenging buildings; experience delivering Net-Zero Design.
- Strong client management skills with ability to grow the business and win new work; highly commercial with an existing network of contacts.
- Proven bidding and project delivery experience, including managing teams of M&E engineers and serving as project director for major projects.
- A track record of working with other directors to shape the future of the business and develop strategies to grow the unit.
- Accreditations such as ILFI, LEED, WELL, or Envision are preferred.
