The Canine Performance Sciences Program at the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking a Temporary Canine Instructor for DCSITE
. The Canine Instructor I will support research and development activities by assisting with canine training, handling, and overall development. This role involves ensuring the health, welfare, and proper care of program canines, maintaining equipment and facilities, and participating in outreach initiatives. Additional duties may be assigned to support the mission and objectives of the Canine Performance Sciences Program.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with a one-year appointment, expected to end on October 31, 2026
. Candidates must meet the minimum age requirements, be U.S. nationals, and successfully complete all required onboarding procedures.
The TES Canine Instructor supports the CPS Program by performing tasks including but not limited to:
- Canine handling, training, acclimation, socialization, and care to support research and development activities.
- Applying behavioral conditioning principles for working/research dog development.
- Evaluating and documenting canine performance and behavior.
- Transporting dogs locally and out-of-state, requiring overnight travel.
- Assisting with CPS program operations, including outreach and public engagement.

- High school diploma
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
- Must be 18 years of age or older by Nov. 1st
- Willingness to work outdoors in varied weather conditions
- Understanding of animal behavior
- Detection canine training experience
- Hands‑on experience working with dogs from birth to adulthood
- Knowledge of behavior learning and conditioning principles
- Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills
- Team‑oriented with the ability to work independently
- Problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail
- Experience operating larger vehicles and towing animal transport trailers
- Competence with data entry and basic record keeping
Hourly Rate: $18.00 - $22.00/hour depending on experience
Work Hours6:00 AM or 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, 4–5 days per week, including some weekends
