Job Summary

The Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art is looking for Auburn University students for the position of Museum Visitor Assistant to warmly welcome and engage visitors in our lobby and shop, as well as assist with events hosted at the museum. The ideal candidate exemplifies superior hospitality, possesses excellent communication and customer service skills, and enjoys behind the scenes work as well, including event space set‑up and breakdown.

Our Visitor Assistants are able to answer questions quickly and effectively, enjoy working cooperatively with others, have exceptional organizational skills and an eye for detail. Most importantly, Museum Visitor Assistants represent the museum and Auburn University in a professional, cheerful, and kind manner.

Essential Functions Typical duties (including outdoors) may include:
  • Warmly welcoming all guests, ensuring they receive everything needed for a great visit
  • Answering the telephone and transferring calls to the correct staffers/departments when needed
  • Anticipating guests’ needs
  • Promoting and processing monetary gifts of support/donations
  • Processing registration and program attendees
  • Providing guest feedback to the Visitor Services Manager
  • Performing regular area checks of museum spaces, including galleries, to ensure a welcoming environment for guests
  • Performing careful sales transactions through the POS (point of sale) system to ensure accurate cash handling and inventory control
  • Assisting with store merchandising, restocking, and cleaning and any other retail initiatives
  • Setting-up and breaking down events such as art exhibition openings and other programs or university sponsored events
  • Promoting safe work practices for guests and coworkers
  • Successfully completing other general duties such as inventory, filing, cleaning, and errands
Schedule
  • 9:45am – 6:15 pm Tuesday – Sunday
  • One – three shifts per week (approximately 12 hours per week)
  • Working during university breaks is desired
  • A mix of weekday and weekend is available

This position is a long‑term job opportunity for AU students during their entirety of enrollment at Auburn University. Considerations can be made for interested candidates.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled as an Auburn University undergraduate student.
  • Ideally, candidates should be able to lift 25lbs, be able to stoop, kneel, walk, and carry equipment, and work under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to read on a computer and answer a telephone.
  • Availability to work weekends.

$14.00/hour
