HBK Engineering, LLC is a fully licensed, professional engineering design firm headquartered in Chicago, IL with a staff approaching 700 individuals. HBK provides civil, environmental, structural, electrical, subsurface utility, construction support services and permitting facilitation. A Project Manager at HBK Engineering is a position that leads project teams consisting of engineers, designers, and field personnel involved in the design, modification, analysis, and constructability of new and existing utility systems. This executive‑level role involves working on challenging assignments that include investigating, troubleshooting, and solving a wide variety of engineering and construction‑related issues while coordinating utility design and relocation efforts on behalf of utility infrastructure owners.
The position requires preparing, reviewing, and approving proposals, contracts, and cost estimates while serving as team lead in coordinating detailed design phases for all aspects of utility engineering work.
- Primary point of contact with our regional client and/or subcontractors

- Develop project specifications and implement practices which will achieve defined objectives to the satisfaction of the client and of management.

- Maintain working knowledge of utility company policy and procedures in order to communicate effectively with various professional staffs from client companies.
- Occasional travel may be required
- Day to day supervision of back office engineering operation, including but not limited to office resource management
- Direct the local staff and work product of planning and/or administrative teams
- 5+ years of professional experience directly in a relevant project or engineering leadership role specifically within the utility and/or telecom sector.
- Experience with SCE is required
- Lead and mentor engineering design teams, guiding projects through all phases, from initial concept to final implementation.
- Oversee utility design and coordination efforts, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with industry standards.
- Manage project financials, including budget control, resource allocation, and contract negotiation.
- Act as a primary point of contact for area agencies, municipalities, and governing jurisdictions, ensuring smooth project approvals and coordination.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules, ensuring timely delivery within tight deadlines.
- Apply strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting expertise to overcome project challenges effectively.
