Driver
We are recruiting a part‑time driver on a 15 hour contract, Saturday and Sunday covering hours between 0600‑2200. The role covers collection and delivery of clean and dirty linen to and from our hospital sites to and from the Aintree site laundry. Join our dedicated transport team to make a difference. As an NHS driver, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our healthcare services.
NHS drivers have a variety of responsibilities that are essential for the smooth operation of healthcare services. Their main duties typically include:
- Delivering medical supplies, equipment and medications to various NHS sites.
- Performing daily vehicle checks (oil, fuel, tyre pressure, cleanliness, stock).
- Following strict health & safety guidelines, including infection control procedures.
- Maintaining accurate records of deliveries, pick‑ups, mileage and any incidents.
- Assisting patients with mobility issues during vehicle transport.
- Communicating effectively with healthcare staff and patients.
To manage workload to maximise efficiency of deliveries and collections the post requires problem solving to address on‑site customer enquiries, to achieve and maintain the standard of service as agreed, keep within timed schedules, and work unsupervised. Planning of own day‑to‑day work tasks, supplying a delivery and collection service as laid down by current schedules, keeping documented reports (vehicle log sheets, mileage, defect reports), maintaining the vehicle (fuel, oil, water, tyres, lights, cleanliness), ensuring safe loading/unloading and compliance with Trust policies, and undertaking mandatory training in infection prevention and control.
Key attributes and qualifications:
- Demonstrated good driving practice following road traffic regulations and awareness of pedestrians.
- Effective communication with staff and customers in a courteous manner.
- Ability to work unsupervised and demonstrate initiative.
- Time & task management skills.
- Manual handling capability.
- Clean driving licence for up to 7.5 tonne weight and appropriate UK professional registration.
