No teaching experience required! We will train you!
Substitute instructors operate on an on‑call basis, providing coverage during the absence of full‑time or part‑time instructors. They demonstrate, teach, and observe all lesson plans as a full or part‑time instructor would. A substitute instructor is required to hold a Commercial Driver’s License and may be required to hold additional teaching licensure, if necessary.
EssentialJob Duties and Responsibilities
- Make appropriate application of learning theory and employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved in a classroom or truck setting.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, use the identified students’ needs to plan instruction, and maintain records as required by corporate policy.
- Takes all reasonable precautions while supervising students in a classroom, range, or road setting to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, material, and facilities.
- Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with staff and students concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of students.
- Strives to implement educational student goals consistent with corporate policy by instruction and action.
- Assists the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student conduct.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings as needed.
- Strives to achieve professional growth through an ongoing program designed to supplement and enhance teacher ability.
- Is familiar with school and corporate philosophy.
- Is knowledgeable on state and federal laws on corporate policies affecting curriculum and/or instruction in the classroom.
- Carries out any other job‑related duties upon administrative request.
- All truck driving instructors must have knowledge, skill, and actual performance abilities that far exceed the abilities identified in the objectives of the curriculum.
- Driving instructors communicate instructions to students, assess student performance, and provide students guidance on theory understanding, performing maneuvers on a skills driving range and in the truck on roads in 4 to 12 hour shifts as needed.
- Valid Class A CDL License.
- Minimum two (2) years of practical trucking related experience that demonstrates instructional competency.
- A safe CDL A driving record as determined by the SAGE Safety Department.
- Knowledge/Skill:
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of safe truck driving and all of the laws and regulations covering tractor‑trailer interstate operations. - Driving instructors must also be capable of demonstrating the SAGE curriculum subject matter for the students.
- Additional truck driving and/or teaching licensure, if necessary.
- Truck Driver Trainers/Instructors must meet the minimum qualifications for interstate tractor‑trailer drivers in accordance with all requirements of the applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, including but not limited to meeting the physical and driver qualification standards of Part 391, and be able to pass a D.O.T. drug and alcohol screen.
