Position Description
TITLE OF POSITION: Assistant Coach - Softball
DEPARTMENT: Athletics Department
POSITION REPORTS TO: Head Coach / Softball
Salary: $52,500
Overview
Manhattan University, an NCAA Division I institution and member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), is seeking applications for a full-time Assistant Softball Coach. The successful candidate will assist the Head Softball Coach with all aspects of the Manhattan softball program, working to develop a positive atmosphere for the program both internally and externally to the athletic department and College.
Must be committed to assist in managing the program within the guidelines of the NCAA, MAAC and Manhattan University, Department of Intercollegiate Athletic policies and procedures and will be expected to work cooperatively with all constituencies and campus units.
This is an in-person, on-campus, non-remote position.
Job Responsibilities
- Recruit, coach, and develop talented student-athletes with an emphasis on skill development, game understanding, and competitive growth.
- Provide high-level instruction in multiple phases of the game; pitching instruction and/or specialized positional experience preferred.
- Assist with the planning and execution of team practices, individual workouts, and game strategies.
- Contribute to the development of a championship-caliber program while maintaining the highest ethical and academic standards.
- Support recruiting efforts through evaluation, communication, and relationship-building with prospective student-athletes and families.
- Promote and represent the Manhattan University softball program positively within the University, athletic department, and external community.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, coaching staff, parents, alumni, and institutional partners.
- Demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and a strong commitment to teamwork within the athletic department.
- Assist with administrative and organizational duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree preferred. - Demonstrated softball coaching, playing, or instructional experience at the collegiate, high school, club, or elite travel level.
- Strong knowledge of softball fundamentals, techniques, training methods, and game strategy.
- Ability to teach and develop student-athletes in a positive, structured, and competitive environment.
- Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations or the ability to quickly learn and apply them.
- Strong organizational, planning, and communication skills (verbal and written).
