Position: RECREATION PROGRAMS ASSISTANT MANAGER (Assistant Recreation Center Manager) - Range 10 / AMEA

Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.

This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.

Monday-Sunday between 7 am and 9 pm.

Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Remote Work Schedule Opportunities

Telecommuting may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work per P&P 40-40.

To be considered for employment

Applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.

Responsibilities

Facilitate the programming and operation of the Anchorage Parks and Recreation facilities and summer camps. This position is responsible for delivering quality programs, helping staff to connect with facility user groups, monitoring facility and programs, and permitting recreation facilities. Act as a facility lead and provide the necessary training and teachable moments to ensure outstanding customer service, quality programs and a safe facility operation.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and three (3) years of experience in facilitation of a recreational program.

OR

Associate’s degree in Physical Education, Recreational Sports, or a related discipline and one (1) year of experience in facilitation of a recreational program.

OR

Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreational Sports, or a related discipline and experience in facilitation of a recreational program.

Required Certifications and Licenses
  • American Red Cross First Aid Certification (age appropriate) at time of hire.
  • American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) age appropriate at time of hire.
  • Employment is conditional upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160 and AS 12.62.400).
  • Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License and satisfactory Driving Record at time of hire.
Preference

Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees. AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.

Background Check and Additional Requirements

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.

If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a national criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160) and (AS 12.62.400). Accordingly, it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from the date requested. The processing fee of $47.00 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.
