Job Summary

The Assistant Volleyball Coach plays a vital role in supporting the Head Coach in developing and maintaining a competitive NCAA Division II volleyball program within the Lone Star Conference (LSC). This position is actively involved in all facets of team operations, including player development, recruitment, training, and overall program administration.

In close collaboration with the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach helps cultivate a positive team culture that reflects the values and mission of The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) and its Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. The program is expected to operate in full compliance with the policies, regulations, and ethical standards of UTD, the LSC, and the NCAA.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree. One (1) year of coaching experience or two (2) years playing experience in the designated sport.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and two years of previous coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level with knowledge and commitment to NCAA Division II rules.

Applicants with a Master’s degree and 3–5 years of collegiate coaching experience, preferably at the NCAA Division I or II level, will receive priority consideration.

Other Qualifications

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists the Head Coach with administrative functions of the intercollegiate volleyball program, including scheduling, recruiting, team and equipment management, budgeting, and oversight of UTD-designated athletic and sport camps.
  • Successfully completes the NCAA Coach’s Certification Exam on an annual basis.
  • Represents the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the University in a professional, ethical, and respectful manner.
  • Adheres to the Code of Ethics established by The University of Texas at Dallas and the University of Texas System.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn and utilize university-specific software systems.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable state laws, NCAA regulations, and university policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions

This position requires a flexible schedule and the ability to work extended hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays during athletic seasons. Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, travel long distances by bus or van, and stand or work outdoors for prolonged periods, as applicable. The role also requires the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and to adapt to changing schedules and priorities.

Must possess and maintain a valid Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record at the time of hire.

Remote Work Notice

After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in-office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
