Overview
Gymnastics Canada (Gym Can) is the national governing body for the sport of gymnastics in Canada, overseeing all Olympic disciplines including men’s (MAG) and women’s (WAG) artistic, rhythmic (RG), trampoline (TR), and the other world level disciplines. With a mission to lead and support the growth of gymnastics across the country, we play a key role in athlete development, coach and judge education and development, national events and high-performance excellence.

Reporting to the Program Director, the National Team Advisor – Women’s Artistic Gymnastics provides senior technical leadership, advisory support, and performance expertise to Gymnastics Canada’s High Performance WAG program.
Technical Leadership and Performance Alignment- Provide senior technical guidance to the Program Director aligned with:
- The Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Gold Medal Profile
- International podium benchmarks and FIG trends
- Quadrennial performance objectives
- Contribute to technical gap analysis at the athlete, coach, and system levels
- Support strategic decision-making related to difficulty development, execution quality, and routine construction
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individual Performance Plans (IPPs) for:
- Senior and Junior National Team athletes
- Targeted Next Gen athletes and their personal coaches
- Build national coaching capacity through targeted mentorship of personal coaches, strengthening technical depth and reducing system-wide performance risk
- Contribute to athlete monitoring through:
- Technical and video analysis
- Competition and trend analysis
- Benchmarking against international standards
- Promote psychologically safe, athlete-centered performance environments consistent with Win Well principles
- Deliver targeted technical interventions at National Team training camps that:
- Accelerate athlete readiness
- Address identified performance gaps
- Ensure effective transfer of learning back to daily training environments
- Collaborate with other National Team Advisors, Event Leads, and Specialists to ensure camps provide value-added expertise
- Contribute to national coach education initiatives through:
- Technical presentations, workshops, and learning sessions
- Sharing international best practices and evolving performance trends
- Act as a visible technical leader within the Canadian WAG coaching community
- Support alignment between athlete pathway, coach development, and judging standards in collaboration with Sport Development
- When appointed, serve as an Event Lead or Team Coach at identified international competitions, including:
- Invitationals
- World Championships
- Major Games (e.g., Pan American Games, Olympic Games)
- Provide on-site technical leadership, readiness decision-making, and athlete performance support in collaboration with Integrated Support Team members
- Years 2–3:
Innovation, experimentation, and rehearsal - Games Year:
Refinement, risk management, and execution
- Act as an active member of relevant technical committees and working groups (e.g., WPC, WAG technical working groups)
- Provide expert input to ensure technical decisions align with High Performance priorities, athlete well-being, and international competitiveness
- Support transparent, performance-driven governance processes
- Participate in post-major Games debriefs and performance reviews
- Contribute to documentation of technical learnings to inform:
- Future quadrennial planning
- Coach education resources
- Podium Pathway refinement toward 2032
- NCCP Level 4 Certified or international equivalent
- Proven international experience as a Team Coach
- Demonstrated success supporting high-performance athletes within a decentralized daily training environment
- Strong technical knowledge of the FIG Code of Points and international performance trends
- Ability to influence, mentor, and collaborate within complex performance systems
- Bilingualism (English and French)
- Experience with in the Canadian WAG system
- Experience as an Event Lead, Technical Advisor, or Apparatus Specialist
- Experience contributing to selection policy development, performance planning, or coach education
- Demonstrated commitment to Safe Sport and athlete-centered performance environments
This position is remotely based in Canada and requires regular domestic travel for training camps and meetings, as well as international travel for competitions and major events.
